Hello and welcome to my blog! As you can see, I’m not one to write a lot or often, specially in these troubled times. Hope you are all safe and healthy. I’ll tell you a bit of what I’ve been up to and give you a preview of some of the pieces coming this Christmas.
This summer I spent quite a bit of time fixing a 21‘ sailboat that was going to be sent to La Collette… this boat had mushrooms growing inside due to a water leak, but all rotten wood has been replaced, fibreglass reinforced from the inside and after Christmas I’ll start finishing it up. It’s been hard work but lots of fun for me! This is what it looked like when I met him… his name is Tio Pepe now. It’s a Parker 21 with a lift keel mechanism.
During the summer, I was asked to teach Jewellery for beginners at Highlands, which I immediately accepted as I had the whole course prepared to start in my studio at some point but Covid stopped all that back then.
This term has flown by! 37 Jewellery learners signed up and have made a wonderful start. They are already asking when they can sign up to the next term, so i guess they’re happy with the course. There’s no better feel than sharing knowledge and watch people embrace it and grow.
In between, that, plus looking after my large family of people and pets, and my father with Parkinson’s, I have designed and made new Jewellery pieces. Some with beach pottery or sea glass, others with tourmalines, crystal quartz, turquoise, labradorite, sapphires, amethyst, pearls, Picasso Jasper, carnelian, rose quartz … a bit eclectic... They are all made from scratch, as everything I do, in sterling and fine silver. This year I am also adding touches of gold on some pieces and hope to start working with gold next year (every year I think this and prices just keep going up!). I guess another option is to do vermeil, sterling silver heavily gold plated (done by me at my studio)… we’ll see.
Wishing you a Healthy, Happy and Peaceful Christmas and 2023,
xx Aida
